PURPOSE: To maintain compatibility, to remove influence to other software and to make it possible to add KANJI (Chinese character) display by providing the information processor with a switchable KANJI displaying font storing means allocated to an extended ROM area. CONSTITUTION: In this information processor having the extended ROM area 5 without preparing a KANJI display function, areas 7, 8 respectively storing a 16×16 dot KANJI font and a 24×24 dot KANJI font e.g. are superposed to the area 5 as the switchable KANJI displaying font storing means allocated to the area 5. At the time of initial program loading after turning on a power supply, the area 5 is selected in the overlapped area of the area 5, 7, 8 similarly to a conventional method. When KANJI display is required, the KANJI font in the area 7 or 8 can be selected and read out. Consequently the addition/ change of design/specifications interrupting compatibility and influence to other software is removed and the KANJI display function can easily be added while maintaining the compatibility.
