In a broadband antenna unit (10B) having a ground plate (12B) and an elliptically shaped radiation element (14) disposed at an upper portion of the ground plate in a plane (x, y) where the ground plate extends, the ground plate (12B) has a semi-elliptically shaped upper edge (12u) and a lower portion where both side corner portions (Wy) are deleted with a central portion (Wx) left. The ground plate (12B) and the radiation element (14) are formed on a substrate (16).
