The method involves determining characteristic parameters of an object e.g. implant, and automatically, approximately adjusting the object to a body part e.g. leg (8) of a patient (6), by using the characteristic parameters. A tolerance dimension is determined for adjustment between the body part and the object. The object is automatically adjusted relative to the body part in a smooth manner for a long time by using a spatial section of the body part, until the tolerance dimension achieves a desired threshold value.
