Disclosed is the use of a flavonoid extract in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of a mammal for at least one of the treatments selected from the group consisting of: to reduce or prevent naturally occurring protein oxidation in a mammal's body; to reduce or prevent naturally occurring DNA damage in a mammal's body; and combinations thereof; wherein the extract is obtained from the bark of the genus PInus (such as Pinus radiata) and contains a mixture of flavonoids selected from the group consisting of catechin; epicatechin; gallocatechin; dimers, trimers, oligomers and polymers of catechin and epicatechin; quercetin; dihydroquercetin; myricetin; astringenin; pinosylvin; taxifolin; stilbenes; hydroxylstilbenes; phenolic acids; and combinations thereof.
