<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording system and image recording apparatus with which contents of an image are prevented from being known by the other person when utilizing the image recording apparatus for receiving information for confirming a user, and recording the image after confirming the user by further collating the information with information accepted from the user. <P>SOLUTION: A transmitting apparatus 2 transmits encrypted image data obtained by encrypting image data by using an authentication code for an encryption key and first conversion information obtained by digesting the authentication code while using a unidirectional function to an image recording apparatus 1. The image recording apparatus 1 digests the authentication code that is directly accepted from the user, by using the unidirectional function to generate second conversion information and when the generated second conversion information is matched with the received first conversion information, the accepted authentication code is used for a decryption key to decrypt the received encrypted image data into the image data.
