A decorative pattern application kit includes elongate polymer plastic panels with an adhesive adapted to adhere the panels to a surface. A container is provided containing a liquid surface preparation adapted to prepare the surface prior to adhering the panels. An absorbent surface preparation applicator is provided for use in applying the surface preparation. A smoothing tool is provided which is adapted to free the panels of any underlying air pockets or wrinkles and ensure the adhesive adheres to the surface. Instructions are provide to guide the homeowner in the use of the kit.
