<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hyaluronic acid production promoter that is useful for skin antiaging or treating diseases followed by abnormal decomposition of hyaluronic acid, has slight influence on the human body and is safe by promoting hyaluronic acid production ability by cell and a composition for external preparation for skin, which fundamentally ameliorates skin function by increasing hyaluronic acid synthesis ability which a cell itself originally has, keeps firmness and moisture of the skin and prevents or ameliorates wrinkles, dry skin, tanned skin and aged skin. <P>SOLUTION: The hyaluronic acid production promoter comprises an extract or essential oil obtained from Crocus sativus of the family Iridaceae.
