<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode material which can improve cycle characteristics, and to provide a battery using the same. <P>SOLUTION: A disk-shaped positive electrode 12 housed in an outer package can 11, and a disk-shaped negative electrode 14 housed in an outer package cup 13, are laminated by interposing a separator 15. The negative electrode 14 contains an alloy or a compound containing Fe as well as either or both of Sn and Si. The ratio of Fe in the alloy or the compound is preferably 15 wt.% or less.
