METHOD OF CHLORINE PRODUCTION

Chlorine is produced by oxidation of hydrogen chloride as a by-product. The waste gas containing hydrogen chloride as a by-product reacts with oxygen at a temperature of 300 to 500 degrees C in presence of a catalyser, which contains chromium oxide as its basic component. The resulting gas is quickly cooled and then washed by water for obtaining evaporated chromium. The hydrogen chloride is subsequently absorbed in water for its obtaining in the form of a water solution of hydrochloric acid, which is followed by pressing and cooling. The resulting liquefied chlorine is separated. The still remaining gas, consisting as a matter of fact of oxygen is then returned to the oxidation degree.
