The coating comprises a nonionic acrylic copolymer with a m.pt. greater than 100 deg. C. - A paper or cardboard material has a heat-sealable surface coating that covers at least one side, this layer acting as a moisture and gas barrier. The coating contains (A) 80-98 wt.% nonionic acrylic copolymer with a m.pt. greater than 100 deg.C, and (B) 2-6 wt.% at least one anionic acrylic copolymer with a m.pt. less than 100 deg. C, both with respect to solids content. - Independent claims are also included for: - (a) a similar material with a coating containing 80-98 wt.% (A) and (C) 0.1-4 wt.% stearates or paraffins solid at room temperature; - (b) a similar material with a coating containing 80-98 wt.% (A), 2-6 wt.% (B) and 0.1-4 wt.% (C); and - (c) a method for preparing these materials.
