PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the drive device of an ink jet printing head constituted so as to alternately apply a pulse-like current to a heater in both directions to extend the life of the heater. SOLUTION: The drive device of the ink jet printing head is constituted so that the ink in an ink chamber is heated by applying a current to the heater so as to alternately change the directions of the current not only to produce bubbles but also to expand them and the ink is discharged from the ink chamber by the expansion force of the bubbles. If the current is allowed to flow to the heater while changed in its direction, the damage possibility of the heater caused by electron mobility can be reduced by half as compared with a case that the current flows to the heater in one direction. Accordingly, the damage period of the heater is delayed to extend the life of the heater. Further, since the flow direction of the current to the heater is not related to the magnitude of heat energy generated in the heater at all, the drive circuit of the ink jet printing head has the same capacity as the conventional drive circuit. Therefore, the reliability of the ink jet printing head is enhanced only by correcting the drive circuit without improving the material of the heater. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
