The joint comprises a body (1) with a recess which has an inner spherical surface (6) and an axial aperture (3) to receive the spherical pivot head (4) equipped with a fixing shank (5) which projects through the aperture. The body has an angled base (11) and an outer cylindrical surface (10) which is threaded to receive a clamp nut (23). The body of the joint is in two main sections (16, 17) with transverse parting planes (18, 19) which divide the inner spherical surface more or less diametrically. The two sections are joined together by an outer peripheral weld (20), e.g. produced by a laser beam. The transverse surfaces are situated so that the two sections can be fitted together by a relative axial movement of the sections, and they can be stepped to form a shoulder. The outer cylindrical surface of the body can be threaded from its outer end, adjacent to the aperture, as far as the weld, and both the body and nut have holes (26, 25) for tools which enable the body to be held still while the nut is turned.
