<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To block areas of a document image more quickly and accurately than in conventional types. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An object list LO in which information of each object included in a structured document is collected in a list format is generated. Objects among which a distance in the vertical direction of a document is equal to a threshold or less are included in one object group G, and the objects in the object group G are grouped as one group. After that, if the horizontal length of a rectangle circumscribing the two or more objects included in the object group G is equal to the vertical length or more, and the horizontal length of every one of the two or more objects is less than a threshold, a reblocking process is executed. In the reblocking process, objects included in the object group G among which the horizontal distance is equal to a threshold or less are grouped as one object group GC.
