A strip of self-adhesive labels is supplied in an endless plastic hose. The labels are separated from the strip by cutting from a length of the hose by a cutting implement which is a disc rotating at constant speed (2) with one or more blades (5) moving between a cutting position and a waiting position. Each blade (5) is linked to a magnetic component made of weak magnetic material. One or more electromagnets (6) are positioned around the disc and exert a force on the weak iron section, moving the blade between the cutting presentation and waiting position. The blades are returned to the waiting position by a spring (4) or centrifugal force.
