<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new urethanase capable of degrading a urethane compound; and to provide a method for biodegrading the urethane compound using the urethanase, and utilizing the enzyme preferable from the point of natural environment. <P>SOLUTION: The urethanase can degrade especially the urethane compound usable as a raw material for a polyurethane, or the polyurethane.
