An input device, a portable device and a recording medium for recording a program are provided to operate the input device and achieve efficient input easily by using a keyboard having keys arranged in zigzags. An input device(100) which is used in two directions has a keyboard(131) including keys arranged in zigzags. The keys are symmetrical in every direction, and symbols in a first or second direction according to the direction in which the input device is used are attached to the keys. The keys have a diamond shape. The keys are arranged such that the sides of the plane on which the keys are arranged are not parallel with the sides of the diamonds.
