PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly efficient and highly reliable hermetic compressor, by preventing abrasion of an upper race and an upper race seating surface and abrasion of a lower race and a thrust sliding part, when operating the hermetic compressor. SOLUTION: The occurrent of abrasion in a contact part between the upper race 276 and a bore plane 266 and abrasion in a contact part between the lower race 278 and the thrust sliding part 230, is prevented by preventing the upper race 276 and the lower race 278 from rotating by being pulled by a ball 272, since the ball 272 rolls on the upper race 276 and the lower race 278 without sliding, by arranging the upper end 286 of a rotor 206 higher in the axis 228c direction than an upper end surface 253 of a stator 204 so that magnetic attraction force generated in the rotor 206 becomes the direction for sandwiching a thrust ball bearing 270 by the thrust sliding part 230.
