PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light steering device relaxing impact to the knee of a driver at collision of a vehicle by ensuring a wide space at a periphery of the knee of the driver and capable of smoothly performing contraction action of a column at secondary collision. SOLUTION: Large impact load is applied to a front side of a vehicle body in a steering wheel 103 by the impact at the secondary collision, and when a connection member 6 is moved to a front side of the vehicle body, an energy absorption member 74 is stripped off to elastically deform it and safety of the driver is ensured by absorbing impact energy at the secondary collision. Since the connection member 6 is formed by a plate-like member, it is made to be lightweight, and since the connection member 6 can be arranged approaching to an axis of an upper column 4 than a drive rod 53, the wide space at the periphery of the knee of the driver is ensured and impact to the knee of the driver at collision is reduced.
