PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radical polymerization process for preparing a vinylidene chloride polymer excellent in living property. SOLUTION: The radical polymerization process employs (A) one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers, at least one of which is a vinylidene chloride monomer, (B) molecular iodine and (C) one or more radical-generating agents chosen from diazo compounds, peroxides and dialkyl diphenylalkanes. The radical polymerization process includes (1) introducing at least one fraction of each of the compounds (A), (B) and (C) into a reactor and (2) bringing the contents of the reactor into a reaction while introducing the optional balance of each of the compounds (A), (B) and (C) into the reactor.
