An apparatus for expanding tubes (1) by means of hydraulic pressure in defined areas, e.g. for fixing cams (2) on a hollow shaft, in which apparatus the pressure is transmitted by interposing an expandable elastomer body (11). The material of this elastomer body is joined by vulcanising or bonding to the material of the probe body (5) outside the working area defined by an encircling groove (10).
