PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject fibril having each value for a specific surface area, a freeness and a paper strength equal to or larger than a specific value and a part passing through a specific mesh with a value equal to or less than a specific value and suitable as an air filter material, especially a tobacco filter material. SOLUTION: This cellulose acetate fibril having >=10 m2/g specific surface area, >200 ml freeness, <=10 wt.% part passing through 150 mesh through a sieving test and >=1 kg/15 mm paper strength is obtained by spinning a dope into a coagulant solution 13 containing 5-13 wt.% of a solvent capable of dissolving a cellulose acetate with an angleθwhich is the angle of a discharge line A of the dope and an injection line B of the coagulant fluid with satisfying the relation: 0<=θ<=90 deg..
