PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that easily specifies the position where a foreign matter is attached to a reading part. SOLUTION: This image reader having an exposing means for exposing an original, a carrying means for relatively moving the original with respect to the exposing means, and a reading means for photoelectrically converting reflected light from the original exposed during being carried by the carrying means and generating image data, is further provided with a means for specifying an attachment position if the foreign matter is attached to the reading means and an attachment position presenting means for presenting the attachment position to a user.
