PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple-wavelength light source that has a fixed center wavelength and a fixed wavelength interval for a wavelength multiple division(WDM) transmission system, which enables large-capacity optical communications. SOLUTION: An array waveguide 13 is sandwiched between optical amplifiers 11 and 16 to form a laser structure. The array waveguide 13 is constituted as a stable WDM light source by providing feedback so that phase modulation can be imposed under electric field control by electrooptic crystal and a wavelength shift due to environmental changes is put back to a reference value. Thus, the multiple-wavelength light source is obtained which has resistance to environmental changes and also has stable fixed center wavelength and a fixed wavelength interval, and a large-capacity communication system can be constructed which uses wavelength as an address. |
