PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera that prevents interruption of a communication operation by a worn-out battery due to exhausted battery capacity and eliminates the need of an externally mounted power supply during communication between the camera and an external device such as a personal computer. SOLUTION: The camera incorporates a power supply 30 and can be communicated with an external device via a communication contact 43 and is provided with a body control circuit 36 that detects whether or not an external device is connected to the camera and selects the built-in power supply 30 or the power supply of the external device on the basis of the detection result and allows the selected power supply to supply power to various circuits of the camera.
