PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent surface smoothness and adhesiveness to a floor by scattering olefin-based resin chips on an olefin-based resin backing material through a fibrous base material and subjecting to heating and pressing treatments to form a surface decorating layer. SOLUTION: This floor material is obtained as follows: at first, an olefin- based resin chip is obtained by mixing an olefin-based resin comprising 20-80 wt.% of a polyethylene comprising a low density polyethylene or a mixture thereof and 80-20 wt.% of an ethylene-based copolymer selected from the group of ethylene-vinyl acetate and ethylene-(meth)acrylate, or the like, with an inorganic filler such as calcium carbonate in an amount of 50-300 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the above resin. Then, the objective floor material is obtained by laying the above chips on a backing material mainly comprising an ethylene- based and containing copolymer such as ethylene-vinyl acetate or ethylene-(meth) acrylate and containing a prescribed amount of an inorganic filler and having 0.5-5.0 mm thickness through a fibrous base material, heating and pressing the product to form a surface decorating layer, and laminating a fibrous backing material on the back face of the above backing material.
