PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a route information providing device capable of guiding by automatically extracting congestion information on a route and information the user desires to know in the congestion information. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a storage means for storing map information, a present position calculation means for calculating the present position of a vehicle, a route searching means for setting destination and searching for at least one or more routes between two spots from the present position to the destination, a required time calculation means for calculating the time required for passing each congested section on the route searched for by the route searching means, a route guide means for guiding the route, a traveling history storage means for storing the position of a congested section on the route and the required time, and a congested section extraction means for extracting the congested section to be emphasized, by comparing the congested section searched for by the route searching means with the congested section stored in the traveling history storage means. Only the congested section that requires longer time than the previously specified time, relative to a required time calculated by the required time calculation means, is guided in an emphasized manner.
