[Class 46] A filter element is made up of a stack of paper or other porous sheet members of identical configuration, each being formed with an opening, the openings being in registration and the members having cut-away portions that terminate short of the openings therein, each sheet on assembly bei n g differently oriented from the adjacent members to provide cells for the collection of contaminant. Each sheet member may be of the form shown in Fig. 2 comprising spokes 29 and web portions 31, an adjacent sheet being arranged with the web portions covering the spaces 32, and the next sheet having the web portions covering the spaces 33 to provide cells 39 as shown in Fig. 1. The sheets are mounted on a central tube 15 which is connected to a bolt 16 to hold a casing 12 and cover 13 together. The spokes are formed with conduits 35 for conducting filtrate to the central opening 27. The sheets before being cut out from a length of stocks are in intermeshing relation, a portion of one sheet extending into a recess between portions of another sheet.</p> |
