Method for accepting and/or authenticating documents

A document is fed via an input unit (1) and subjected to the process of authentication using a combination of at least two inspection methods (2,3) from a group comprising: size inspection, magnetic printing ink inspection, image inspection, infrared inspection, UV inspection, visual inspection etc. The results of the inspection are compared by a CPU (4) with data stored in a database (5) and authentication (6) of the document is determined with a set percentage of accuracy. For the results below set margin of accuracy a visual inspection (8) is performed before a final acceptance (7) or rejection (9) decision is made. An independent claim is also included for the inspection/authentication apparatus.
