a light source unit configured to output a light beam; a light source drive unit configured to drive the light source unit based on input image data; a scanning mirror unit configured to reflect the light beam from the light source unit so as to raster scan the light beam by being driven in a main scanning direction and a sub-scanning direction; an exit pupil enlarger that is arranged on an optical path of the light beam output from the light source unit; a detector configured to detect whether the exit pupil enlarger is present on the optical path, and a shutter configured to enter and leave the optical path in accordance with a detection result of the exit pupil enlarger by the detector.
