PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus designed so as to facilitate jam removal and ensure high safety free from electric shock. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 10 includes: a photoreceptor 40 on which an electrostatic latent image is formed; a developing device 44 used to render the electrostatic latent image formed on the photoreceptor 40 visible; a holding-conveying belt 60 disposed freely rotatable and used to hold the image formed by the developing device 44 or a sheet on which the image formed by the developing device 44 has been transferred; an opening/closing cover 17 used to open or close the holding-conveying belt 60; and a charge removal device 74 used to remove charges on the holding-conveying belt 60. Charges accumulated on the surface of the holding-conveying belt 60 are removed by the charge removal device 74 by rotating the holding-conveying belt 60 in synchronization with the opening of the holding-conveying belt 60 by the opening/closing cover 17.
