<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an operating light low powered and the response time faster in a microresonator for light-to-light switch and an light-to-light switch. SOLUTION: Substances having a high polarizability or a combination of the substances and transparent bodies are regularly arranged in the microresonator for light-to-light switch in a way that a resonator mode having an absorption band is present therein. When a signal light is incident upon without the incidence of a control light, the energy level only by the signal light is not more than the transmission threshold value of the resonator, thus the signal light is not transmitted. When the signal light is incident upon with the incidence of the control light, the signal light is excited by the control light and the energy level thereof is made to be not lower than the transmission threshold value of the resonator, so that the signal light is transmitted. The control light excites the specified signal mode of the resonator or the waveguide mode thereof, thus enabling the action of the switch to be lower powered. By setting the specified mode to the side, having sufficiently low energy, of the absorption band, it is realized that the response time is made to be faster and that the thermal effects are reduced.</p> |
