A water−based magenta ink composition which has a hue and brightness which are suitable for ink−jet recording and gives a print excellent in fastness properties such as ozone resistance and light resistance.(1)The ink composition contains as a dye component a water−soluble magenta composition containing an anthrapyridone compound represented by the formula(1)(wherein R represents hydrogen or methyl;X represents phenyl,phenoxy,or halogeno;and n is an integer of 1 to 4)or a salt thereof.
