PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a runner fixing structure for lightening in weight, thinning and shortening an umbrella. SOLUTION: A locking piece formed with locking portion at the upper end thereof and shaped into a V shape is turnably pivoted by a wire along with receiving bones at a bending point of the V shape in the runner; the structure has an engaging portion present above the middle rod and engageable with the locking portion, a gripping portion formed with a groove guiding the V-shaped downward extending portion of the locking piece and sliding relative to the runner, and an elastic body biasing the downward extending portion of the locking piece from the middle rod to the outer direction; the runner slides upward interlocking with the movement for sliding the gripping portion upward; the locking portion is engaged with the engaging portion and the runner is fixed so as not to be able to slide; the downward extending portion of the locking piece is guided with the bottom face shape of the groove interlocking with the movement for sliding the gripping portion downward and turns to the middle rod side against the biasing force of the elastic body, and thereby the upward extending portion turns to a radially outward direction to the middle rod to release the lock of the locking portion and the engaging portion in the runner fixing structure.
