A method and apparatus for distributing an audio or video information is disclosed, wherein a source (6) of the audio or video information is connected to a voice network (2) and the format of the audio or video information is transformed into the transmission format of the voice network (2) and selectively supplied to a subscriber line (10, 11, 12) by a switching operation. Thereby, an audio or video service information can be wider distributed, since receipt is possible whenever a voice network terminal such as a telephone device is available, and service distribution can be made more effective, since it can be effected in accordance with the subscriber's needs.
