DIATOMACEOUS EARTH CARRIER NOT DETECTABLE BY METAL DETECTOR AND OXYGEN ABSORBENT AS WELL AS THEIR PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diatomaceous earth powder carrier which is not detectable by a metal detector without executing pickling with hydrochloric acid, etc., an oxygen absorbent utilizing the same and a processing for producing the same. SOLUTION: Diatomaceous earth powder is subjected to wet process molding and the moldings are gradually heated up in a sufficient oxidation atmosphere and is maintained at 600 to 900 deg.C after the heating up, following which the moldings are fired under conditions of gradually lowering the temperature. The non-pickled diatomaceous earth granulated carrier which has a water holding rate of >=90% and a wet process flouring rate of <=60% and is not detectable with the metal detector set in such a manner that standard beads of iron balls of 0.8 mm diameter is detected. The oxygen adsorptive material is produced by depositing an oxygen absorption component on this carrier.
