PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation of machining accuracy due to deflection of an end mill E, and breakage and the like of the end mill E in a groove machining operation composed of a groove cutting process (A) and a drilling process B. SOLUTION: This method comprises the step of the groove cutting process (A) for forming a groove G by traversing the end mill E, which has such tapered cutting edge portion C at a tip end side that the diameter of the end mill E gradually increases in proportion to the distance toward a rear end side and rotates about an axis O, relatively to a work piece W in the traversing direction F crossing the axis O, and the step of the drilling process B for forming a hole portion H by advancing the end mill E relatively to the work piece W at the position of the end of the groove G. In this case, the end mill E and the work piece W are put once in a non-contacting state between the groove cutting process (A) and the drilling process B, for example, by withdrawing the end mill E once relatively to the work piece W after a finish of the groove cutting process (A), and after that, the drilling process B is carrying out.
