Synthesis of a para-alkoxybenzaldehyde by the reaction of a phenyl alkyl ether with a complex derived from a Vilsmeier salt and aluminium trichloride at 95 - 105 deg C.The Vilsmeier salt is obtained by reacting phosgene with N,N-dimethylformamide.
