A liquid crystal display device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a first substrate; a pixel electrode formed on the first substrate and including a first electrode and a second electrode which are overlapped with each other with an insulating layer therebetween; a second substrate facing the first substrate; a common electrode formed on the second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer injected between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first electrode includes a plate portion and a plurality of first branch electrodes extending from the plate portion. The second electrode includes a plurality of second branch electrodes. The ratio of the area of the plate portion of the first electrode to the entire area of the region occupied by the pixel electrode is approximately 25 to 60%. The liquid crystal display device of the present invention can prevent the deterioration of display quality due to a misalignment between the two substrates.
