CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION OF THIN WALLED BROAD BILLET

PURPOSE:To produce a thin walled broad billet having a good surface characteristic by inclining an endless belt to an upward grade, and supplying a molten metal onto said belt from a molten metal supplying spout disposed to a casting mold in tight contact therewith on the upper stream side. CONSTITUTION:A moving mold is formed of a water cooled endless belt 19 and dam blocks 9 which rotate and move. A molten metal 6 is put from a ladle 8 once into a charger 5, and overflows underneath a skimmer 3 from said charger so that the molten metal is supplied into the casting mold from the top end of a molten metal supplying spout 4 while the same molten metal surface is maintained without any particular fall. The metal 6 in contact with the belt 19 forms a solidified shell 17 bent the belt 19 moves upward and therefore the solidified shell grows gradually until the shell grows to a prescribed billet thickness. The solidified shell escapes from the molten metal pool and a thin walled broad billet 7 is continuously obtd.
