PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an analyzing method capable of accurately and easily measuring the Hazen color number (APHA) without being affected by the composition of the principal components of material to be measured, the kind of impurities, and the content thereof. SOLUTION: With regard to a plurality of materials to be measured whose Hazen color numbers (APHA) are known and the numeric values thereof are different, spectrums each represented by absorbance are measured, and in a plurality of spectrums obtained, out of the wavelength region in which the absorbance changes in accordance with the change in the Hazen color number (APHA), arbitrary wavelengths remarkable in the change of absorbance are selected as the measurement wavelength; out of the wavelength region in which the change in absorbance is small, an arbitrary wavelength with substantially no change is selected as a reference wavelength, and for each measuring material, the Hazen color number (APHA) is obtained from the correlation between the difference in the absorbance in the measurement wavelength and the reference wavelength and the Hazen color number (APHA).
