System, device, and method of electronic payment

A system and method allow a customer to perform self-checkout at a real-world non-virtual store or restaurant or other business establishment that the customer is visiting. The customer pre-defines an electronic payment method. The customer visits the business establishment, and the system generates a unique user-specific code that is a function of the time, the location, and the specific customer. The code is displayed on the mobile device of the customer, which is then shown to an employee of the business establishment, which then enters the unique code into a Point of Sale terminal; thereby generating an association between an ongoing open tab of the customer, and the mobile device of the customer. The customer is able to perform self checkout of the open tab, without requiring action on behalf of the business establishment.

1. A method for digitally associating a customer with an open tab, said method implementable on a server external to a business establishment and accessible by multiple business establishments, the method comprising:
the mobile device determining the current geo-spatial location of a mobile device of a customer using a GPS receiver on said mobile device; receiving said geo-spatial location; generating a list of candidate establishments that are located in proximity to said geo-spatial location of the mobile device of the customer; causing the mobile device of the customer to display said list of candidate establishments; wirelessly receiving from the mobile device of the customer, a wireless signal indicating a user selection of one of the candidate establishments on said list; generating a user-specific code at least from an identity of the business establishment selected by the customer, current date-and-time data and customer-specific data for a customer having a previously defined customer profile; wirelessly sending to the mobile device of the customer said user-specific code; receiving a signal from a Point of Sale (PoS) terminal of said particular business establishment, indicating entry of said user-specific code into said PoS terminal; based on the user-specific code, digitally associating said customer with an open tab stored in said PoS of ongoing purchases of said customer at said particular business establishment; and handling a customer instruction to close said open tab using a pre-defined payment method of said customer stored in said customer profile thereby enabling said customer to leave said establishment.
