A ratcheting tool 100 having a head 110 adapted to apply torque to a workpiece and a drive gear 125 and a pawl 120 disposed in the head, wherein the pawl is adapted to engage the drive gear to permit rotation of the drive gear in a 1st rotational direction and prevent rotation of the drive gear in a 2nd rotational direction to apply torque to the workpiece, the tool comprising a hoop spring 130 disposed on and at least partially extending around the drive gear; an elastic member 127 coupled to the hoop spring and adapt to bias the pawl into mating engagement with the drive gear; and a stop 155 disposed on the hoop spring and adapted to restrain the elastic member from sliding toward the drive gear. In an alternative invention, in place of the stop 155, part of the hoop spring 330 may be formed into a retention portion 335 which performs the same function. |
