Joint for light-weight profiles

The butting edges of the thin-walled components e.g. vehicle body sections, are fitted with rigid inserts (5,8) in holes in the components. The inserts have thrust flanges (11,12) and are open profile away from the butting edges. The components are clamped together by clamping bolts (18) with clamping profiles (19,20) at each end, to pull the components together. At least one of the rigid inserts has a conical bore to hold a conical insert (13) with flange (14) which sits on the thrust flange (12) of the rigid insert. A threaded hole (24) holds a grub screw to secure the fitting.
