The purpose is to obtain a vinyl polymer by a method superior to prior-art processes in terms of producibility and waste reduction when obtaining a vinyl polymer having terminal hydrolyzable silyl groups, said polymer characterized by having a structure in which hydrolyzable silyl groups are introduced at the polymer terminals and a halogen derived from an initiator is eliminated from the polymer. The invention relates to a vinyl polymer having terminal hydrolyzable silyl groups, said polymer characterized by having a structure in which a halogen atom derived from an initiator (B) having carbon-halogen bonds is eliminated from the polymer and by having a structure derived from a vinyl monomer (C) having a hydrolyzable silyl group on the terminal of a vinyl polymer (P) that is a living polymer of a vinyl monomer (A) in which the initiator (B) is used.
