A sewing machine applies a fancy yarn by drawing loops from an underlying yarn in a lattice in channels located within a sewing brush belt (3). The brush belt esp. has thread guide channels (9) with converging sidewalls in the vicinity of the brush interlocking zone. The yarn is withdrawn and looped by an array of needles in a needle bed (4) from a lattice web (1) in channels embedded within a moving brush belt (3). The lattice web and needle bed are separated by a drag bar (5) forming a yarn guide channel (9) in the direction of brush belt movement (10). The bar has needle holes located over the channels.
