PURPOSE:To contrive the large improvement in the calcination yield by calcining thin, long beta-alumina tube in an upstanding state and in a state inclined so that the heating source side of the tube is raised. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical beta-alumina tube 1 having a length of 100-1000mm, an outer diameter of 10-100mm, a thickness of 0.3-5.0mm, and a L/D(length/outer diameter) of <=10 is obtained, both ends of the tube being opened or one end of the tube being sealed. The tube 1 is set so that the tube is inclined at an inclination angle of 2-10 deg based on the horizontal surface in a state raised on the side of the heating source of a calcination oven and subsequently calcined. If necessary, in order to prevent the tube from being curved, an inclination angle theta of the tube is set within the range surrounded by a square containing desired four points as its vertexes on a graph using the L/D(length/ outer diameter) ratio of the tube as the axis of abscissa and the inclination angle theta of the tube 1 as the axis of ordinates, and the tube is calcined to produce the beta-alumina tube. |
