<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus to allow a user who gives priority to the prolongation of the life of a capacitor to select the prolongation of the life of the capacitor and allow a user who gives priority to high-speed printing to select the shortening of startup time taken until the temperature of a fixing roller becomes fixing temperature. <P>SOLUTION: A mode setting part 101 sets a mode to a capacitor's life prolongation mode when an operation command to select the capacitor's life prolongation mode is received in an operation display part 40, and sets it to a high-speed startup mode when an operation command to select the high-speed startup mode is received. When the capacitor's life prolongation mode is set, a switch control part 102 turns on switches SW1 and SW3 and turns off a switch SW2 so as to connect the capacitors 231 and 232 in parallel when discharging.
