PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide surface-coated porous oxide particles preventing the intrusion of a binder component of a dispersant, a resin or the like into open pores and maintaining characteristics, such as low refractive index property and low dielectric property, of the porous oxide particles, and to provide a method for coating the surface of the porous oxide particles. SOLUTION: The surface-coated porous oxide particles are obtained by forming reaction points 5 on the outer peripheral surface 2 of each porous oxide particle 1 composed of silicon oxide or the like, and then bonding and fixing a coating layer 6 composed of an organic polymer onto the reaction points 5. Thereby, the opening end of each open pore 3 is sealed by the coating layer 6, and the inside of each open pore 3 is made hydrophilic. The thickness of the coating layer 6 is set to 0.1-30 nm.
