Polarization modulation scheme for intra-channel non-linear suppression

A method for modulating the polarization of a plurality of adjacent wavelength channels in a WDM transmission link and an optical transmitter for use in an optical transmission network. The method comprises the step of modulating the polarization of a plurality of adjacent channels in said WDM transmission link with a single modulator. The modulator applies the same time varying polarization shift to each of said plurality of adjacent channels.
