The appts. to fit a cover to a bottle carton (10) has a folding and insertion station (50) with a sliding die plate (54) and die (52). The die mechanism (54,52) is moved by a drive (53) from a start position towards the carton (10) and back to the start position. Swing folding plates (58,60) move with the die plate (54), through the drive, to pivot from the start position into the folding position, where each plate (58,60) is parallel to both end surfaces of the carton (10), and are aligned to them.
